That Day (2003)
Plot Outline / Introduction / Synopsis:
That Day: Masterful Chilean director Raoul Ruiz’s (TIME REGAINED) noirish black comedy THAT DAY features Elsa Zylberstein as the wealthy Harald’s endearingly mad daughter Livia, who long ago checked out of reality. When Harald runs into some financial trouble, he develops a plan to kill Livia for her inheritance, but Emil Pointpoirot (Bernard Giraudeu, WATER DROPS ON BURNING ROCKS), the serial killer Harald chooses to do the deed, develops a strange connection to the girl. While Emil turns his “talents” on the rest of Livia’s greedy family, she remains oblivious to the rising body count and the activities of her new found companion. Ruiz’s gleefully absurd film uses deft camerawork to portray the alienated and idiosyncratic perspectives of Livia and Emil, while unique plot twists evoke a Hitchcockian vision.
